Welcome to Transportation Infrastructure Research Laboratory. This time I investigated about the future vison of Shanghai Pudong International Airport. So I explain about this vision.
First of all, I would like to give you some insight into this conclusion. The conclusion this time is the terminal layout plan should be designed for the convenience of travelers!!
Location, Pudong, Shanghai, China
Opening year, 1999

Direction 17L/35R, Length 4,000m 13,123ft, Surface Concrete, No.1
Direction 16R/34L, Length 3,800m 12,467ft, Surface Concrete, No.2
Direction 17R/35L, Length 3,400m 11,155ft, Surface Concrete, No.3
Direction 16L/34R, Length 3,800m 12,467ft, Surface Concrete, No.4
Direction 15/33, Length 3,400m 11,155ft, Surface Concrete, No.5 (The test runway in constructing)
Terminal 1 is domestic and international.
Terminal 2 is domestic and international.
Satellite Concourses (Connected with Terminal 1 and 2 by an underground automated people mover)
Two Cargo Area
Terminal 3 (Location: Southern Area of Satellite Concourses) Target year is 2035
Terminal 4 and 5 (Location: Southeast Area of existing Airport area) Target year is 2040
Runway 6, 7 and 8 (Location: Southeast Area of existing Airport area) Target year is 2040
The terminal to be built in the southeast is too far from the existing terminal, which we believe will reduce passenger convenience. I think the airport authorities should rethink the plan.
